Dr. Weisgerber says that she feels very lucky that her job involves getting to know so many people on a personal level, and then she gets to solve their problems while boosting their confidence. Her goal is to build strong, trusting relationships with every patient, including you! But first, you can learn a little more about Dr. Weisgerber by reading below.
“In high school, anatomy was my favorite class. I not only took the class but also acted as a teacher's assistant for the following year. This is when I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. My anatomy instructor had mentioned that he originally was in dental school and dropped out and that it was one of his biggest regrets. He continually expressed that he thought it would be a great career for me based on my interests and my outgoing personality. Once this was mentioned to my mom, it was essentially decided! My mom has always been my number one supporter, and her confidence in me helped push me to work hard and get into dental school.”—Dr. Alexa Weisgerber
While earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan, Dr. Weisgerber was part of the Pre-Dental Club. She then spent a year working as a dental assistant in San Francisco before earning her dental degree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. During this time, she served as the pre-dental liaison for the American Student Dental Association, and she was responsible for mentoring, educating, and putting on events for undergraduate students who were interested in dentistry. Today, Dr. Weisgerber keeps her skills sharp and her knowledge up to date through her memberships in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and SPEAR Education.
Dr. Weisgerber has family in Northern Michigan and Grand Haven, and Ann Arbor is her current home base. She loves to cook, especially if she can make it to a farmers market and pick up fresh ingredients. She admits that she is “guilty” of making sweets, with banana bread and berry pie being her specialties. She also likes to stay active and has completed a couple of half-marathons as well as a 25k. Her latest hobby is playing tennis—she started taking lessons in dental school and now plays a couple times a week.
